Maremma
We tend to imagine the Maremma as an area still wild, untamed, difficult. In point of fact, however, it abounds in opportunities, not only for the raising of the prized Chianina cattle but for viticulture as well, since it benefits from the breezes from the nearby Mediterranean and its mild autumn weather ensures a gradual and complete ripening of the grapes, all of which lend the wines their roundedness and their general vigour.
The Perolla tenuta comprises some 1,000 hectares that rise from the plain towards the hills around Massa Marittima, with 50 of them devoted to high-quality vineyards. Because of its re-discovered viticultural role, many consider the Maremma Tuscany’s new wine frontier.
