Perolla
In Maremma
The Perolla tenuta originally specialised in livestock, raising the famous Chianina cattle breed. But in the early 1990s high-quality viticulture became its main vocation, with ambitious plantings carried out of sangiovese and vermentino, varieties long planted in the area, as well as of other noble varieties, such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and syrah.
The winery estate consists of some 1,000 hectares in the Maremma, of which 50 are in vine. The vineyards rise from the Mediterranean shoreline up into the hills around Massa Marittima, a location that brings them the favourable influence of the mild local weather conditions, ensuring a slow, even, and complete ripening of the fruit.
